Parker Bridwell - 9th round - RHP (HS)

Recommended Posts

Bridwell graduated from Hereford High last month, completing a stellar athletic career for the Whitefaces during which he starred in football, basketball and as a baseball pitcher. Bridwell has signed to play baseball at Texas Tech.

"Everything has gone well and I think I will be drafted," said Bridwell, who went 7-2 and recorded 106 strikeouts in 65 innings.

"A bunch of teams have called and then a bunch have come to Hereford to watch me throw a bullpen."

Teams visiting Bridwell in Hereford include the New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, and Pittsburgh Pirates.

"I have no clue what they are looking for so I just throw and hope they like it," Bridwell said. "If I don't go in the draft as early as I like I still have the scholarship to Tech. So really, everything is positive.

"This is like a dream come true."

He goes to Hereford HS. Hereford cattle have white faces, and I'm guessing are occasionally referred to as "whiteface cattle". According to his Scout.com picture, the sports teams are referred to as the Herd, which would lend credence to my theory.

I don't know about the HS, but you are definitely correct about Hereford cattle being referred to as "whitefaces."

    • Mason Miller and David Forst have said as much in interviews I've seen this spring, but the Red Sox probably said the same stuff about Papelbon back in the day. Sigbot first wants to see if he's healthy after the MLB draft.
    • No idea why, but I'm so tired of hearing about this. It doesn't mean jack. Losing the game last night because Kimbrel blew it would have been a tougher pill for me to swallow than this streak ending. I wish it would end because I'm tired of hearing about it. This team is good enough for it to go on a lot longer, too, so that makes it even worse.
    • He will surprise you. It’s not easy being a role player on a good club. Defense is paramount and Mayo needs to improve his before he gets a chance. Simple as that.
    • Is it though? He looks like’s swinging a 50 lb. bat. He’s aging so badly, I don’t think he’ll ever sniff a .700 OPS in his career again.
    • Again, I don’t know what the problem is but: Kimbrel’s first 9 appearances came in a 20 day span.   On 3 separate occasions he pitched on back to back days.   In those 9 appearances. 9 IP 3 Hits 0 walks 14 strikeouts His velocity was down (93) but he was great.  Did he grow old between April 20 and April 22?   I don’t think so.   I can only speculate like everyone else.  Maybe the back tightness is a lingering issue?   Seems to me he’s overthrowing and loses command when he does.  Why is he overthrowing when he was dominant at 93?    I don’t know. He has looked despondent the last two blown saves when he was taken out so this really seems to be getting to him.   My best guess is that he’s still dealing with something physical that they consider minor but that he’s trying to pitch through and the results say it’s not working.
    • The only thing that could help Kimbrel find what he's lost is a time machine. On the bright side - the Kimbrel situation hasn't really hurt the team significantly but there's no doubt Elias will have to take another shot at filling the closer role. He has plenty of trade ammo to work with in the trade market so let's see what he can come up with.
    • Urias is an average MLB player. On the free agent market he'd likely get 2/20 or 2/15 or something like that. I think it's unlikely that Elias releases an average MLB player and gets nothing out of the deal. If they're thinking about making a move I have to assume they're trying to find a trade.
